Adventure seekers: if bungee jumping and whitewater rafting have lost their thrill, how about trying the new Shark Bay attraction at Sea World, tel: (61-7) 5588 2205, on Australia's Gold Coast? This brand-new adrenaline rush allows youusing a snorkel or, if you're a certified diver, via a scuba diveto come face-to-face with some of our most feared predators. Either way, you'll swim in a reef lagoon accompanied by a qualified dive leader, with an underwater educational trail to follow.
Shark Bay is the largest man-made shark lagoon in the world, giving bigger sharks enough space to perform a 60-m-long swim-glide pattern, a technique used by sharks at rest. The lagoon is also home to giant rays and schools of tropical fish. As for the deadly tiger sharksdon't worry. Public liability insurance does not allow for direct contact with these especially dangerous brutes. They are isolated in a separate pool behind a clear-glass screen that gives you the uncanny feeling that they're just inches away. In fact, the only predators you might have to worry about meeting are those in the souvenir shop at the end of your visit.
